FAQ
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a trance state, where we are guided into deeper levels of relaxation. During this time, the unconscious mind is more aware and can focus on helpful suggestions and thoughts.
In our day to day lives we all naturally go in and out of trance states many times during the day – perhaps when we are driving, reading a good book or even washing the dishes. In this relaxed state, we experience changes in our conscious awareness – almost like day-dreaming.
Being in a trance is a very relaxing experience – and it is something that all of us will frequently experience in our daily lives. In fact, experiencing changes in our conscious awareness is a vital part of our existence as humans – we need times where we can relax, reflect and consolidate information, and utilise different parts of our brains for different activities.
What happens during my initial consultation?
The initial consultation starts with me gathering information to find out about you and what you want to achieve through hypnotherapy and our sessions together. I will explain how the brain works and how this is relevant to you and the issues that you are having.
I will give you a free recording to listen to every night as you go to sleep which will help you to relax and begin the process of hypnotherapy. This is a very important part of your therapy and results are often easier to achieve when you participate with this element.
What happens in a hypnotherapy session?
We will spend some time talking about the progress you are making, and I will be encouraging you to be thinking positively about yourself and your life, and focusing on solutions for you. I will help you to decide what you want to achieve in the future, how you would like your life to be, and how you can start moving towards your goal. We will then begin the hypnosis where you will be asked to relax and I will then guide you into further relaxation allowing your mind to relax and focus on any thoughts and suggestions that may be useful to you to bring about your desired changes and goals.
Am I in control?
This is the one question that comes up for a majority of people and the answer is yes. You are in complete control during the trance. Contrary to how hypnosis is sometimes portrayed in movies or on television, you don’t lose control over your behaviour while under hypnosis. When we are in a trance state we are still in control, you will process and decide whether information or suggestions are useful to you, if not you will not accept them.
Will it work for me?
Solution Focussed Hypnotherapy can be enormously powerful but with anything, dedication and determination are required to maximize the success of any treatment program. Whilst success cannot be guaranteed, if you are willing to put the work in and understand that it is a collaborative journey, you can get positive results. Please take a look at my client testimonials to learn more.
How many sessions will I need and how often?
The number of sessions required will vary for each person but you can expect to need at least 8-12 sessions for general anxiety and stress-related issues although some clients could require more. Each individual is very different as we all process our feelings and emotions very differently.
Fear and phobia normalisation requires 4 sessions.
Smoking/Vaping cessation is 1 session.
All sessions last 50 minutes with the exception of smoking cessation, which lasts between 90 and 120 minutes.
What is a relaxation session?
Self-care is so important to each of us and we get so busy with our daily lives that it can easily drop to the bottom of priorities. You can take some ‘me’ time and book a relaxation session putting your body into a complete and encompassing state of relaxation that will leave you feeling relaxed and refreshed.
Do you do online sesssions?
Yes. Over the last year, therapists have had to adapt very quickly to a new way of working and I have been meeting with a number of clients over Zoom for many months. It works just as effectively. You would need to ensure that you have a good internet connection and to find a spot where you are not going to be disturbed to ensure you get the most out of our sessions online.
How do I book and pay?
What is your cancellation policy?
Sometimes life just gets in the way and I will try to be as flexible as possible so if for some reason you are unable to attend an appointment, please let me have a minimum of 48 hours prior notice so that I can offer this time to someone else on my waiting list. I reserve the right to charge late cancellations, forgotten or missed appointments at the full rate, however, I will always try and accommodate any changes.
