Stress
Stress is the body’s reaction to feeling threatened or under pressure. It’s very common, can be motivating to help us achieve things in our daily life, and can help us meet the demands of home, work and family life, however when we are not coping well then the response can hinder our ability to cope.
When you are in a stressful situation, your body launches a physical response. Your nervous system springs into action, releasing hormones that prepare you to either fight or take off. It’s called the “fight or flight” response, and it’s why, when you’re in a stressful situation, you may notice that your heartbeat speeds up, your breathing gets faster, your muscles tense, and you start to sweat. This kind of stress is short-term and temporary (acute stress), and your body usually recovers quickly from it.
But if your stress system stays activated over a long period of time (chronic stress), it can lead to or aggravate more serious health problems. The constant rush of stress hormones can put a lot of wear and tear on your body, causing it to age more quickly and making it more prone to illness.
If you’ve been stressed out for a period of time, you may start to notice some of these physical signs:
Headaches, Fatigue, Difficulty sleeping, Difficulty concentrating, Skin problems, Upset stomach, Irritability, excessive worry, mood swings, muscle tension, grinding your teeth, weight loss or gain and more.

Fear and Phobias
A phobia is an intense fear reaction to a particular thing or a situation. With a phobia, the fear is out of proportion to the potential danger but to the person with the phobia, the danger feels real because the fear is so very strong.
Phobias cause people to worry about, dread, feel upset by, and avoid the things or situations they fear because the physical sensations of fear can be so intense. Symptoms may include, dizziness, palpitations, nausea, panic, crying and an overwhelming need to run away. So having a phobia can interfere with normal activities. A person with a phobia of dogs might feel afraid to take a walk in case he or she encounters a dog. Someone with an elevator phobia might avoid any place which involves going on an elevator. If you have a fear of flying, then long-distance travel is out of the question. For those experiencing an extreme fear of phobia, it can limit enjoyment of life and create additional anxieties and stress. A phobic reaction is quite different from simply being scared or disliking something.

Pain Management
There are two different types of pain – acute and chronic pain. Acute pain (also referred to as short-term pain) is usually a result of an accident or temporary illness. In this case, your doctor will make a diagnosis and suggest ways to manage the pain (for example, pain killers). The pain reduces and eventually resolves once the injury has healed. Without this reaction and useful purpose, our survival would be threatened.
Chronic, or long-term pain is often more complicated. The pain may be a result of a medical condition, or there may not be any obvious cause. This doesn’t mean the pain isn’t real, it just makes treatment that much more complex. When pain serves no useful purpose and becomes chronic and persistent, it becomes exhausting and can affect you physically and emotionally. Stress, insomnia and anxiety are common side effects of pain and can even make the sensation feel worse. The way the mind responds to pain also links to the perception of physical sensations. Daily activities become difficult and overwhelming and mean you’re unable to enjoy life as you used to
Helping to reduce stress and change the thought patterns related to pain can therefore make a huge difference to pain perception

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is repeated unwanted thoughts or sensations (obsessions) or the urge to do something over and over again (compulsions). Some people can have both obsessions and compulsions.
OCD isn’t about habits like biting your nails or thinking negative thoughts. An obsessive thought might be that certain numbers or colours are “good” or “bad.” A compulsive habit might be to wash your hands seven times after touching something that could be dirty. Although you may not want to think or do these things, you feel powerless to stop.
Everyone has habits or thoughts that repeat sometimes. People with OCD have thoughts or actions that could take up the whole of their day, are beyond your control and are not enjoyable. OCD can interfere with work, your social life, or another part of life.
Many people who have OCD know that their thoughts and habits don’t make sense. They don’t do them because they enjoy them, but because they can’t quit. And if they stop, they feel so bad that they start again.
If you have obsessive-compulsive disorder, you can likely tell that stress is a major trigger of your symptoms. In addition, as the anxiety caused by your stress often causes you to use poor coping strategies like avoidance.
